Camden Row

Bath, Somerset

Mitchell Eley Gould were appointed by White Space Development to design two new homes for on a brownfield infill site in the World Heritage City of Bath. Our approach taken has been sympathetic and the buildings are of a scale that knits favourably into the surrounding area, particularly with regards to the delicate issues related to overlooking and car parking. The proposal takes inspiration from the immediate built context and uses the site-specific opportunities to inform the building design and orientation in order to make it unique. The use of rubble stone, zinc cladding and green roofs allude to the materiality found in contemporary dwellings appearing within the City - this materiality gives the houses a sense of place within the city. Internal organisation creates opportunities for enjoying the splendid views across the city, taking advantage of the sites sloping topography.

The project won the award for best Residential Development at the Bath Property Awards 2023.

“This very challenging brownfield infill project was consummately handled, from complex planning permission through to delivery on time and on budget.”

“Mitchell Eley Gould were able to review with fresh eyes the potential for our site, at Camden Row in Bath. Following previous experiences with other consultants, Mitchell Eley Gould offered an architectural solution that met our aspirations for Bath. The  site is in an excellent location, in the heart of the Conservation Area and UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The challenging constraints required a sensitivity to design and development which enabled us to obtain planning and furthermore deliver these new homes.  Their experience, creative outlook and attention to detail has resulted in an exemplary project”
