Barn conversion features in RIBA Journal

The Old Barn by Mitchell Eley Gould Architects features in an article by Eleanor Young in the RIBA Journal. The article reflects on our changing attitudes to prospect and refuge and how this influences modern architectural design.

The article reflects how, compared to our predecessors, modern lifestyles are tending towards being more sedentary and internal; professional desk bound careers and digital entertainment mean more of us are spending more time indoors. Increasingly, digital technology means we can do this remotely in the refuge of our own homes. In response to this the desire to connect with nature and light increases .

Technological improvements in glass production and heating systems enable large panoramic windows and doors to be economically created. Increasingly high performance construction and well understood building modelling means that these can by created with high efficiency.

We work closely with our clients to design buildings which provide an enhanced relationship to the outdoors.  Whether the site enjoys the sweeping panoramic views of The Old Barn or the framed views of an urban garden, we will develop the scheme to maximise the connection with nature and natural light.
